Job Description:

The College of Computing and Information (CCI) of the University at Albany, SUNY, invites nominations and applications for up to six new tenure-track faculty positions in its three constituent departments: Computer Science, Informatics, and Information Studies. The faculty members we seek will add to our ability to conduct research and teach in two broad themes: Information, Government and a Democratic Society (IGDS) and Interaction Based Computing and Cognition (IBCC). We seek a mix of computer scientists, information scientists, social scientists, and researchers in libraries, government, education, and other application environments who will add to our strengths in these two areas. Collectively, these new faculty will strengthen our understanding of how to build effective computing and information systems and use them in diverse environments. Candidates will be considered for appointments at all levels, and senior positions may have appointments in multiple departments if appropriate. The College was established in 2005 and is one of nine Schools and Colleges at the University. Each of its three departments has existing areas of strength and the new faculty members we seek will have strong research credentials that supplement and complement our existing strengths. A major effort is underway to develop our educational programs to provide students with an engaging and modern education in computing and information systems and services. This will involve service courses, minors, majors, and graduate degrees to provide all students at the University an appropriate level of instruction to meet their needs and interests in computing, information, and technology. We especially welcome candidates who would work across areas and provide linkages between departments. For more information, please visit our website at http://www.albany.edu/cci

Requirements:

The degree(s) must be from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization. All applicants, regardless of discipline, should have an explicit focus on the construction of effective computing and information systems and/or the use of information in diverse settings. Applicants must include in their application an ability to work with and instruct culturally diverse groups of people. Faculty will participate in all levels of the College's instructional programs, from undergraduate through doctoral education. Priority will be given to applicants with a strong interest in helping develop these programs and the interplay between them.
